Job summary
BOC Kenya Plc (BOC) is a leading supplier of industrial, medical and special gases in East Africa. The Company’s customer base cuts across a large spectrum and includes public and private hospitals, food processors, civil and mechanical engineering contractors, motor vehicle body builders, hotels and restaurants, the informal business sector (“Jua Kali”) and small and medium enterprises.

Job Purpose
The Management Accountant a newly created role, reports to the Finance Director. He/She will be responsible for integrating and aligning the financial management, management accounting, cost accounting and management reporting functions to the business strategy and operating model, so as to enable the effective appraisal of the company’s actual performance against targets.

You will be responsible for setting up and ensuring the effectiveness of the management accounting function at BOC Kenya. More specifically, you will:

  • Identify, develop and implement the management accounting policies, procedures and controls.
  • Monitor report and analyse the business performance, providing timely and accurate management reports such as Variance analysis, trend analysis etc to the management team, with recommendations where possible, so that the necessary actions may be taken.
  • Develop and/or streamline an effective costing process, and continuously review so as to improve the efficiency of the information capturing interfaces.
  • Responsible for the integrity of the finance master data. Ensure that critical data is accurate and up-to-date.
  • Monitor activity-based pricing to ensure accurate standard pricing and report on deviations from standards.
  • Take responsibility for the integrity of the finance master data, ensuring that critical data is accurate and up-to date.
  • Support the planning process by coordinating, compiling, monitoring and reporting on the operations budget.
  • Work closely with the accountant responsible for costing and support the sales function in a review of product gross margins.
  • Ad hoc assistance to strategic business units in terms of information analysis to facilitate decision making
You will be a self-motivated, decisive and customer focused individual with good collaborative and networking skills and a strong sense of accountability.  In addition, you will have:
  • Degree in finance or related field.
  • Professional Accountancy Certification (CPA/ACCA/CMA).
  • At least Five (5) years’ experience in costing, management accounting and or financial reporting is preferred.
  • Extensive experience of using spreadsheets is essential while knowledge of Working knowledge of ACCPAC will be a definite advantage.
  • Experience in external audit, conducting fieldwork and completion/review of financial statements is desirable.
